A Relaxed, Fun Family Farm Wedding in Kelso | Libby & Nathan | 23.05.2026
Libby and Nathan celebrate with family and friends during a joyful confetti moment outside the beautiful stretch tent at their family farm wedding near Kelso in the Scottish Borders. With sunshine, countryside views and a relaxed atmosphere, it was the perfect start to their celebrations.
There’s something really special about returning to film a wedding in a place that already holds memories.
Almost five years ago, I filmed Libby’s brother’s wedding on the family farm in the Scottish Borders, so heading back there for Libby & Nathan’s wedding felt incredibly familiar in the best possible way. The same views, the same relaxed atmosphere, and once again a day completely centred around family, friends and having a genuinely good time together.
They also timed it perfectly and caught the beginning of Scotland’s good weather - sunshine across the Borders, drinks outside and a warm evening that every couple hopes for when planning a marquee wedding in Scotland.
Back to the Family Farm
Libby & Nathan were married on Libby’s family farm in the Scottish Borders, with a beautiful marquee setup by Present Tents creating the perfect setting for the day.
Farm weddings always feel different in the best way. They’re naturally personal. Guests aren’t arriving at a venue they’ve never seen before, they’re arriving somewhere meaningful to the couple and their family. That atmosphere carries through the whole day.
The marquee overlooked the surrounding Borders countryside and gave the whole wedding such a relaxed, open feel. With sunshine, fields surrounding the tent and everyone able to spill outdoors throughout the day, it really felt like summer had finally arrived.
The styling struck a perfect balance too. It was the perfect mix of rustic and elegant. Everything felt thoughtful, personal and very “them”.
A Slow Morning in the Borders
The morning preparations had such a calm atmosphere from the beginning. There was excitement, but without any rush or stress, just everyone genuinely enjoying the build-up to the day.
Libby got ready surrounded by her closest people, with hair by Ashley and makeup by Becca Hutchison creating such a timeless, natural bridal look. Her Rachel Scott Couture dress worked perfectly with the relaxed countryside setting, while the soft florals by Flora Fauna Event Flower Design tied everything together beautifully.
One of my favourite things about filming mornings like this is capturing all the little in-between moments, like, conversations, reactions, laughter and those quieter moments before the day properly begins.
Meanwhile Nathan and the groomsmen were making the most of the sunshine outside before guests started arriving on the farm.
Saying “I Do” by the River
One of the most memorable parts of Libby & Nathan’s day was their ceremony setting down by the river on the farm.
With guests gathered along the riverside and the Scottish Borders countryside all around them, it felt incredibly relaxed and personal. It was the kind of ceremony that could only really happen somewhere so meaningful to the couple and their family.
Led by Jane Keir Humanist, the ceremony struck that perfect balance between emotional and light-hearted, with loads of laughter throughout alongside some really meaningful moments.
Outdoor ceremonies in Scotland always feel special when the weather plays along, and this one really couldn’t have suited the day more. Sunshine was filtering through the trees, the sound of the river in the background and everyone fully present in the moment made it feel intimate despite having so many people there.
It never felt overly formal or staged. It was just genuine, warm and completely centred around Libby & Nathan and the people closest to them.
Newly married and all smiles, Libby and Nathan walk back up the aisle following their outdoor riverside wedding ceremony on the family farm. Set beside the River Tweed in the Scottish Borders, the ceremony was filled with laughter, emotion and stunning countryside surroundings.
Sunshine, Drinks & Good People
As soon as the ceremony finished, everyone spilled out into the sunshine for drinks and hugs outside the marquee.
This part of the day had such a brilliant atmosphere. Guests chatting in the sunshine, drinks flowing from Raise the Bar, Hawick, music in the background and absolutely no rush to move people around or stick rigidly to timelines.
These are always some of my favourite moments to film because people properly settle into the day. The nerves disappear, everyone relaxes and the real atmosphere of the wedding starts to build.
The flowers looked incredible throughout the marquee and outdoor spaces too, with peonies and arrangements adding loads of colour and softness to complement the countryside backdrop.
Golden Light Around the Farm
Libby & Nathan were so easy to film together because it all felt so natural.
We kept things relaxed, taking a short wander around the farm and making the most of the evening light without pulling them away from their guests for too long.
That’s always my approach with couple shoots. I’d much rather give couples space to spend time together naturally than turn it into a long photoshoot. The best moments usually happen in the quieter in-between conversations anyway.
Having the family farm as the backdrop made everything feel even more personal too. These weren’t just beautiful locations, they were places tied to memories, family and home.
The soft evening light across the fields gave us some incredibly beautiful moments before everyone headed back into the party.
A Packed Dancefloor Under the Tent
By the evening, the whole marquee had completely transformed.
Pulse The Band absolutely filled the dancefloor from the start and kept the energy high all night. The atmosphere inside the tent was unreal. The dance floor was packed, there was loads of singing, brilliant energy and everyone fully making the most of the celebration.
Farm weddings always seem to produce incredible evenings and this was no exception.
Later on, Oink Hog Roast kept everyone going as the party continued well into the night.
These are the weddings I love filming most - relaxed, personal celebrations where the focus stays exactly where it should be: on the people and the atmosphere rather than turning the day into a production.
Libby & Nathan, thank you so much for having me back to film another huge occasion for your family. It was such a pleasure to capture your day.
