Balbirnie House provided the perfect setting for Alyssa & Ian’s beautiful wedding day. Set within its impressive grounds in Fife, Balbirnie is such a wonderful Scottish wedding venue, combining grand surroundings with plenty of beautiful spaces for a relaxed and personal celebration.
Some weddings are full of elaborate details and styling, while others have a timeless quality that never feels like it is trying too hard. Alyssa & Ian’s wedding was definitely the latter.
It was a beautifully classic wedding, with elegant styling, gorgeous flowers and an incredible group of suppliers all coming together to create a really special day.
And, of course, Alyssa looked absolutely incredible. Her elegant long-sleeve wedding dress from Suzanne Neville was perfectly suited to the timeless feel of the day.
Morning Preparations
The day began with the usual excitement of getting ready, with all the anticipation gradually building towards the ceremony.
There is something I particularly enjoy about filming the preparations on a wedding day. The big moments are still to come, but there is already so much happening - the finishing touches, the conversations, the laughter and those little moments of nervous excitement.
With Balbirnie House as the backdrop, there was no shortage of beautiful details to capture.
Alyssa's dress was one of those details that immediately stood out. Elegant and timeless, with beautiful long sleeves, it was a perfect choice for the classic feel of the day.
Working alongside Matthew Johnston Photography was also a real pleasure. Having a relaxed and friendly team of suppliers makes such a difference, allowing everyone to concentrate on enjoying the day while we quietly capture what is happening around us.
A Beautiful Ceremony at Balbirnie House
With family and friends gathered together, Alyssa & Ian’s ceremony was a lovely part of the day.
Fiona McKenzie of Fuze Ceremonies helped create a ceremony that felt personal to them, while Sophie Cushnie provided beautiful live violin music.
For me, ceremonies are always about more than simply recording the words being spoken.
It is the reactions around the room, the little glances between a couple, the smiles from family members and the moments when the emotion of the day suddenly catches up with everyone.
Those are the moments that can make a wedding film feel like you're back there again.
Confetti, Congratulations & Time Together
After the ceremony came one of the most fun parts of the day - the confetti!
Alyssa & Ian were surrounded by their family and friends as they made their way through a colourful confetti tunnel, creating one of those brilliant wedding moments that looks just as good in photographs as it does in a film.
There was plenty of laughter, congratulations and time for everyone to enjoy being together as the newly married couple.
These moments between the formal parts of a wedding are some of my favourites to capture.
A hug from a friend. A laugh with a family member. A quick glance between the couple. Someone completely losing themselves on the dance floor later in the evening.
They might seem like small things at the time, but they are often the moments that become the most meaningful when you watch your wedding film years later.
Classic Wedding Styling at Balbirnie House
The overall styling of Alyssa & Ian’s wedding had a wonderfully timeless feel.
The beautiful flowers from Amy Ann and Flowers brought plenty of colour and personality to the day, while the grand surroundings of Balbirnie House provided a naturally elegant backdrop.
It was a wedding where all the individual details worked together without ever becoming more important than the people at the heart of the day.
That balance is something I really love.
A wedding can look incredible while still feeling relaxed, natural and completely personal.
A Fantastic Team of Suppliers
One of the things that made Alyssa & Ian’s wedding particularly enjoyable to film was the brilliant team of suppliers involved.
From Matthew Johnston Photography to the beautiful flowers by Amy Ann and Flowers, the live violin music from Sophie Cushnie and the work of Fiona McKenzie at Fuze Ceremonies, everyone played their part in creating such a lovely atmosphere.
It is always a pleasure to work alongside other suppliers who care about what they do and understand that the best wedding days are the ones where everything is allowed to unfold naturally.
And the M-Arte Studios photobooth brought another fun element to the celebrations, giving guests the chance to let loose and create some memories of their own.
One of Those Classic Scottish Weddings
Looking back at Alyssa & Ian’s wedding, it is the overall feeling of the day that stands out.
The beautiful setting at Balbirnie House. Alyssa's elegant dress. The colourful confetti. The live violin music. The brilliant suppliers.
But most importantly, it was the people.
There was such a lovely atmosphere throughout the day, with Alyssa & Ian surrounded by the people who mean the most to them.
That is ultimately what makes a wedding memorable.
For me, wedding films aren't really about creating a perfect version of the day. They are about capturing the day as it actually felt — the excitement, the laughter, the emotion and all the little moments happening in between.
A Beautiful Wedding at Balbirnie House
Alyssa & Ian’s wedding was a wonderful example of a classic Scottish wedding done beautifully.
Elegant without feeling overly formal, colourful without losing that timeless feel, and filled with wonderful people and a fantastic team of suppliers.
