Some wedding venues are instantly recognisable, and The Balmoral Hotel is undoubtedly one of them. Standing proudly at the east end of Princes Street, it's an Edinburgh landmark that effortlessly combines timeless elegance with breathtaking views across Scotland's capital.

Alexandra & Gavin chose this iconic setting for their wedding day, and from the moment preparations began until the dance floor was packed in the evening, it was a day filled with emotion, laughter and unforgettable moments. As a Scottish wedding videographer, it's always a privilege to film in such an incredible location, especially when the city itself becomes part of the story.

Getting Ready at The Balmoral

The day began within the luxurious surroundings of The Balmoral Hotel, where both Alexandra and Gavin spent the morning getting ready with their closest family and friends. Natural light flooded the elegant rooms as final preparations took place, creating a calm and relaxed atmosphere before the celebrations began.

Alexandra looked stunning in her gown from Avorio Bridal, with her timeless bridal look completed beautifully by Lyn McKenzie Hair & Makeup. Meanwhile, Gavin and his groomsmen looked every bit the part in their traditional Highland dress from Ben Wyvis Kilts.

A Personal Ceremony

Their ceremony, led by Alan Edwards of Fuze Ceremonies, struck the perfect balance between heartfelt emotion and laughter. Personal stories, warm smiles and plenty of happy tears made for a ceremony that felt completely unique to Alexandra & Gavin.

The beautiful music from Arta Strings added another layer of elegance, creating an unforgettable atmosphere as guests watched the couple exchange their vows.

Edinburgh's Skyline Takes Centre Stage

One of the biggest highlights of the day came after the ceremony as we made our way onto The Balmoral's famous rooftop.

With panoramic views stretching across Edinburgh, including the unmistakable skyline and Edinburgh Castle in the distance, it was the perfect setting to slow everything down for a few moments. Despite being right in the heart of one of Scotland's busiest cities, it somehow felt wonderfully peaceful.

These rooftop portraits became some of my favourite moments of the entire day. Alexandra & Gavin simply enjoyed being together while taking in the incredible surroundings. The result was a collection of natural, relaxed moments that perfectly reflected them as a couple.

It's not often you get a backdrop quite as spectacular as Edinburgh itself.

Thoughtful Details Throughout

Every detail of the day had been carefully considered. The beautiful floral arrangements by Pollination added soft, elegant touches throughout the venue, complementing The Balmoral's classic interiors perfectly.

Their cake from Connage Highland Dairy looked fantastic and became another lovely talking point during the reception.

Throughout the day, Lewis Cannon Photography worked seamlessly alongside me, making it easy for both photography and videography to capture every moment naturally without ever feeling intrusive.

An Evening Full of Celebration

As the sun began to set over Edinburgh, the celebrations continued into the evening with friends and family filling the ballroom.

The Jets had everyone on the dance floor from the very first song, creating exactly the kind of lively atmosphere every couple hopes for to end their wedding day.

From emotional speeches to energetic dancing, it was the perfect finish to an unforgettable celebration.

A Wedding to Remember

Alexandra & Gavin's wedding was a wonderful reminder of why The Balmoral is one of Scotland's most iconic wedding venues. Combining luxury interiors with some of the finest rooftop views anywhere in Edinburgh creates an experience that's difficult to match.

Thank you both for trusting me to capture such an incredible day. It was a genuine pleasure to be part of it, and I hope your wedding film brings back these memories for many years to come.
