Bryony & Ryan’s wedding at Wedderlie House was the perfect example of how a wedding day doesn’t need to be complicated to be memorable. Relaxed, laid-back and filled with plenty of laughter, it was a day centred around spending time with the people they love and enjoying every moment. Having originally won their wedding film through a giveaway I ran the previous year made it even more special to be there to capture it all.

A Wedding Giveaway Winner

When I launched the giveaway, I had no idea where the winning couple would take me or what their wedding day would look like.

Meeting Bryony and Ryan, and seeing how relaxed they were made it immediately clear that their day was going to be a brilliant one to film.

There was no feeling of everything having to be perfectly choreographed. Instead, the day was about spending time with the people they love, enjoying the atmosphere and making the most of being together.

That is exactly what I love about documentary wedding films. The best moments are often the ones that aren't planned.

Morning Preparations

The morning had that lovely mixture of excitement and calm that makes wedding preparations so enjoyable to capture.

Bryony got ready surrounded by the people closest to her, with hair and make-up coming together before the celebrations properly began. Her wedding dress from Gwenne Wedding Services was a beautiful part of the morning, while Rachel Lauder of The Flower Bee created the flowers for the day.

There were all the usual little moments of anticipation and excitement, but without the feeling of needing to rush through them.

Meanwhile, Ryan and the rest of the wedding party were getting ready and preparing for the day ahead.

With photographer Adam Luto alongside me, it was great to have a supplier team that allowed the day to unfold naturally.

A Relaxed Ceremony at Wedderlie House

When everyone came together for the ceremony, the relaxed atmosphere continued.

Halde Pottinger led the ceremony, surrounded by family and friends, and there were plenty of genuine moments of emotion, laughter and happiness.

One of my favourite things about filming weddings like this is being able to step back and simply observe. Rather than directing couples or asking them to recreate moments, I can capture things as they naturally happen.

A glance between Bryony and Ryan. A reaction from a parent. Friends laughing together. The little moments happening around the main event.

Those are the things that bring a wedding film to life.

Confetti, Drinks & Time Together

After the ceremony came the chance to properly celebrate.

Wedderlie House is particularly well suited to this kind of wedding. Its private estate and relaxed setting gives couples and their guests the freedom to spend time together without everything feeling like it's happening to a strict schedule.

There were drinks, congratulations, plenty of hugs and lots of time for everyone to catch up.

Bryony & Ryan were able to enjoy their first few hours as a married couple without disappearing for an extended photo session. Instead, their portraits could happen naturally as part of the day.

That laid-back approach really suited them.

Speeches, Food & Celebration

As the day moved into the evening, everyone gathered together for the wedding breakfast.

Gary Moore Catering provided the food, while the atmosphere continued to feel warm, relaxed and full of personality.

The speeches brought plenty of laughter and emotion, with the kind of stories and reactions that are always worth preserving on film.

These are the moments that couples sometimes don't fully appreciate on the day because they're busy experiencing everything themselves. Years later, being able to hear the voices of friends and family again can be just as valuable as seeing the big moments.

Music & Into the Evening

Once the formalities were over, it was time to properly celebrate.

Diego Scotland provided the band for the evening, with Rich Gordon on saxophone adding another brilliant element to the entertainment.

The atmosphere gradually shifted from wedding day excitement into a proper party, with everyone settling into the evening and making the most of their time together.

And that's one of the things I love about Wedderlie House. The venue lends itself so well to weddings that feel more like a gathering of your favourite people than a formal event. The estate is designed around giving couples the space and freedom to make the celebration their own.

A Wedding That Was Completely Their Own

Looking back at Bryony & Ryan's day, I think the word I'd use most is relaxed. There was no pressure to create a perfect Instagram wedding or to make every moment look a certain way. They simply enjoyed being married, surrounded by their favourite people.

And that's exactly what I want my wedding films to capture.

Not just the flowers, the dress or the venue, but the feeling of actually being there.

The laughter during the speeches. The nervous excitement before the ceremony. The hugs from friends. The little glances between the two of you when you think nobody is watching.

Those are the moments that become more precious as the years pass.

A Very Special Wedding Film

It's not every wedding that starts with a giveaway and ends with having the privilege of filming a couple's wedding day.
