A Warm & Joyful Dean Village Wedding | Mairi & Will | 11.10.2025
On 11th October 2025, I had the honour of filming a truly special celebration in Dean Village, Edinburgh. Autumn was in full swing, and the golden light, rich colours, and energy in the air all came together beautifully. This was the very first wedding held in this converted church - The Dean - and what a way to begin.
About the Wedding
Mairi and Will imagined a day that encompassed them - filled with laughter and relaxed moments with their loved ones. They wanted their wedding day to feel natural and asked me to quietly capture the flow of the day, the connections, the joy. They’re both warm, fun-loving, friendly people with a love for stories, so this wedding felt like a story unfolding, moment by moment.
About the Venue
The Dean is a converted church in Dean Village, Edinburgh. It is steeped in character. From the magnificent organ and ornate woodwork to exquisite stone arches, you feel the history in every corner. Fairy lights stretched across the main room softened it - the rustic grandeur meeting intimate warm touches.
Inside, the architecture elevates every frame: vaulted ceilings, wood detailing, columns, and the way light filters through the stained glass windows. It’s a venue that works both in silence and celebration, and on this day it felt both grand and deeply personal.
The Light, the Mood & Colours
Autumn gave us a gift: soft, warm, golden light that wrapped around the day. Outside, the trees were in full colour - rusts, golds, ambers framed every shot. As Mairi and Will walked through Dean Village, sunlight dappled through leaves, stone bridges and paths glowing in those tones.
Inside the church, the warmth continued. Candles, fairy lights, gentle daylight through windows which all combined to make moments feel cosy and alive, full of smiles, emotion, and connection.
Moments That Stay With Me
The vows: heartfelt, honest, with quiet tears and big laughs. The room felt full of love.
The speeches: personal stories, humour, and genuine emotion. Everyone leaned in, laughed, and felt it.
The couple shoot: walking through Dean Village just as the sun angled low with golden tones, quiet streets, them in love in their own world.
Throughout the day: casual hugs, whispered moments, laughter with friends, guests moving between spaces. It was all part of the story.
The day ran smoothly, beautifully, and in its own natural rhythm.
The Party, The Vibe
After the ceremony and speeches, the celebration felt familiar and warm. The church room with fairy lights felt soft and festive. With music, mingling and dancing, the energy rose gently, creating a space everyone loved. It wasn’t about grand gestures, but about presence, connection, music, movement, and most importantly, love and joy.

Thoughts from Me
Weddings like this remind me how powerful “being present” is. Embracing what the day gives you - the light, the weather, the space, and the people are what turn moments into memories. For couples planning their day: let your moments breathe. Let the light come and go. Let your laughs, your tears, your stories be what show through. That’s where the true beauty lies.
